How to Use Mushroom Dual-Extract Tinctures
Consistency is how you get the best results. Long-term studies of mushroom intake in humans consistently point to regular, daily consumption as the best approach for achieving benefits. Research also indicates that regular dietary consumption of edible and medicinal mushrooms is safe and is associated with a lower risk of all-cause mortality.
Our mushroom dual-extract tinctures are made to make incorporating functional and medicinal mushrooms into your daily routine simple and convenient.
Generally, tinctures are best taken under the tongue, allowing the extract to sit for around 30 seconds before swallowing. You can also swallow the tincture directly or mix it into coffee, tea, water, or even food. You’ll still receive benefits this way. However, don’t brew your coffee or other hot drinks or cook foods with the extract, as excessive heat may damage some therapeutic compounds. Instead, add the tincture afterward.
In addition to consistency, mushroom extracts can be taken as needed. For example, you may take additional lion’s mane before an interview when you want your brain to be sharp, use cordyceps before a workout to support performance and oxygenation, or take extra reishi before bed to support deep, rejuvenating sleep.
If you become under the weather or have been exposed to someone who is sick, you can increase your mushroom doses to double, or even triple, the amount recommended on the bottle. High doses of functional and medicinal mushrooms such as lion’s mane, reishi, cordyceps, and chaga generally have a high safety profile and low toxicity, even at elevated doses.
Above all, take your mushrooms with gratitude, and take a moment to state your intention to enhance and support their ability to improve your wellbeing.
How to Use Bitter Love Your Liver — Herbal Bitters
There are three main ways to utilize the bitters. They’re a great natural aid to keep around for really anyone, but are particularly helpful for stomach acid imbalances, lipid metabolism, nutrient absorption, and liver and bile stagnation. They also support normal detoxification processes, gut health, and the immune system.
1. Use them as a digestive aid before meals
Take 10–15 minutes before a meal and allow them to sit on the tongue for ideally 30 seconds, minimum 10. They’re supposed to be bitter! This starts the neurological response through the bitter taste receptors on your tongue, signaling your stomach to begin creating stomach acid and your liver and pancreas to prepare digestive enzymes. It’s essentially like pre-heating the oven!
If you forget and are about to take your first bite, or are even already eating, you can still take them and they can help. But taking them beforehand is best practice.
2. Use them outside of meals as part of a protocol or health condition
This can be done to support gut motility, bile flow, detoxification, and help prevent digestive symptoms from arising. They may also be incorporated into protocols for chronic acid reflux, mold detoxification, parasite cleanses, liver and gallbladder cleanses, and heavy metal detoxes.
These are more specific protocols that are often best guided by a practitioner until you have enough experience and understanding to do them on your own.
3. Use them as needed
Symptoms such as nausea, acid reflux, stomach cramping or queasiness, constipation, and gas are all circumstances where bitters may help.
Particularly with acid reflux and nausea, results can often be seen quickly. Over time, you’ll find how much you personally respond to. The label suggests 0.5 mL, but you may not even need that much. If your reflux or nausea hasn’t completely dissipated after about 10 minutes, you can take more and continue to listen to your body and dose as needed.
How to Use MyCommunitea — Medicinal Mushroom & Herbal Root Tea
For the best flavor and medicinal potential, brew in a slow cooker for 6–8 hours, or overnight. Once you’ve finished the first brew, steep the same bag again for another 6–8 hours. Continue brewing and resteeping until the color or flavor fades. Chaga and herbal roots are particularly dense, so long, multiple brews can stretch the tea surprisingly far.
If you don’t have time to brew the tea bag multiple times, place it in the freezer until you’re ready to steep it again. You can also refrigerate brewed tea to extend its shelf life, it tastes great chilled as well. I’ll often keep the crockpot on the counter on the “warm” setting and pour from it throughout the week.
For a 5–7 quart slow cooker, I recommend 0.6 oz (one small bag), or ⅓–½ of the 2.4 oz bag. Use these as general guidelines and adjust based on how strong you’d like your brew.
No slow cooker? Bring a pot of water to a boil, add the tea, and reduce to a light simmer. Simmer for a minimum of 30 minutes, up to 2 hours. Like the crockpot method, longer is better, and you can resteep multiple times to get the most out of your tea.
You can also brew this like a traditional herbal tea, but consider longer steeps (minimum 15–20 minutes) and multiple resteeps until the color or flavor fades.
For sickness, gut infections, or other acute inflammatory conditions, consider drinking 3 cups or more per day.
This tea is also excellent as a base for hearty, warming soups or foods like oatmeal. Be creative, and enjoy it in community at family gatherings or holiday events.
Electrolytes support hydration, the body’s electrical potential, and energy and performance.
To begin, add ¼ teaspoon to 8–16 fl oz of water and stir until dissolved. Adjust to your desired flavor and potency. The electrolyte package includes a ⅛ teaspoon scoop for easy measuring.
Increase intake on days when sweating is higher than normal or you’ve become dehydrated from insufficient water intake. This may include sauna use, hot weather, or sports.
The electrolyte can also be added to smoothies, soups, and other foods.
For acute situations such as headaches, muscle cramps, or heat-related conditions, you may prepare a more potent solution of 1 teaspoon per 8–16 fl oz of water to support recovery.
If you use reverse osmosis (RO) water without a remineralizer, consider adding this electrolyte to your daily water to support hydration. Water is its own nutritional source, and balanced minerals help support adequate hydration.
